THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE QUIET EARTH

This series confronts the development of and change in the Arctic landscape. Its title refers to the 1985 science fiction film, "Quiet Earth -- the Last Experiment", from the New Zealander, Geoff Murphy.

The photographs were taken in the Arctic Archipelago, Spitzbergen. They show facilities from both its mining and settlement history, and research and scientific study on the archipelago. These works form the first part of the project; a further section is in planning.
